Hey folks, let’s talk about the chalk. Chalk is a wonderful thing! It helps to keep your grip from sliding all over the bar, whether that’s the barbell or the pull-up rig. Chalk doesn’t discriminate, it just makes you more awesome. Heck, it even gives you an excuse to take a break in the middle of a workout. (“What? I’m not resting, really! I’m just chalking up my hands!”)
But there is a seedy underbelly to the chalk. Take a look at this helpful video from CrossFit HQ. Do you recognize yourself?
Trust me when I say that you don’t want to be these people. Instead, keep the below list in mind when going about your workout.
THE RULES OF CHALK
- Use chalk on your hands.
- Keep the chalk in the bucket. Please don’t chalk up and then clap your hands spreading chalk dust all over.
- Don’t leave little bits all over the gym. If you take a larger piece of chalk out of the bucket to keep near your workstation, return that piece when your workout is done.
- DO NOT WRITE ON THE FLOOR WITH CHALK. If you need help counting your rounds, you may use the coins at the front of the room – that’s what they’re there for. If you’re not sure how to use them, ask a coach.
- If you get chalk on the floor, clean it up.
That’s it! Pretty simple, huh? If everyone can stay on track with this, we’ll all enjoy a much prettier gym. 🙂
