A regular to the early morning CrossFit and Lift crew, Rachel Levine is our November Athlete of the Month! Rachel shows up consistently with a smile on her face and puts in work. She’s shown huge improvements in her time with us, and we’re so happy to have her around. 🙂 You’ll be thanking her for your workout next Tuesday, November 8 as we do a workout in her honor. Until then, learn up on Rachel below (especially her very interesting “intro to CrossFit” story!)
(And because she didn’t provide a photo, I stalked her Facebook page to find this gem for y’all. 🙂 )
Name: Rachel Levine
Occupation: Merchandising Manager – Burberry
How long have you been CrossFitting, and why did you start?
3 yrs. I was working at AllSaints and was helping a couple who were pretty much buying everything in the shop. The gf had an amazing body and while ringing them up, I asked what type of workout she did. The bf said she did CF. I said “oh, that cult?” He said, “actually, I’m the CEO and founder of CF.” I tried to back track, but it was sort of too late. He laughed but suggested I go to a CF of my choice, membership on him. It took me awhile to actually go because I had no idea what CF workouts were like. And I didn’t really believe him. Months went by and he came in the store another time to remind me to go. I ended up picking CFHW based off location and reviews and have been coming ever since, even after the membership was no longer on him…Greg Glassman.
What is your favorite WOD?
I pretty much like all the lifting and strength cycles. A favorite actual WOD- 3RFT of 10 CTB, 10 FS @110, 10 bar over burpees.
What’s on your suck list?
Running + wall balls + push ups
What is the strangest talent you have?
Describe your biggest milestone, achievement or “a-ha” moment?
It’s pretty recent but I’ve finally gotten to a point in my life where I’m super happy being me. I lived most of my life uncomfortable and never thought I’d be on the other side. I’m beyond grateful for the process but will always have that goth girl inside.
What can you do now that you thought you’d never be able to do the first time you walked in the gym?
Literally everything. I never used a barbell before CF, so I never thought I’d be able to do any type of lift/squat.
Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit?
Don’t bring your ego. This isn’t the place. It’s fun to compete and compete against yourself (former times and weights) but leave your ego at the door. No one cares. It’s never worth hurting yourself to do something heavier or faster than your body can handle. Ease into it and you’ll see progress.
